Why change the original Jake from State Farm… instead of just making a new character?

Guess we’re stuck with this ‘Fake Jake’ until he starts doing ads for Medicare insurance.

This guy’s the ‘new Jake,’ but still feels weird seeing him.

It’s all just ‘dyna-miiite’ :crazy_face:

Next, they’ll have a character from some drama selling insurance. It’s all a gimmick.

If I had to choose, I’d pick Jake over that other insurance mascot any day. Haven’t seen her in a while on my TV.

@Oli
Careful… she might just pop up behind you!

There’s no getting away from them. Like they’re everywhere.

@Oli
Every time I think I’ve seen the last of a commercial, it shows up a million times again.

I just can’t stand Fake Jake. Every time I see him, I get annoyed. And don’t get me started on the whole gift thing in the ads. Why are they giving him stuff, then snatching it away? It’s like they’re trying too hard to be funny.

And, yeah, I know it’s weird how mad I get over this!

@Sawyer
Totally feel you. What’s with all the dancing in commercials, especially for products with terrible side effects? They just act like it’s all fun and games. And why do insurance ads try so hard to be funny? It’s just cringey.

@Madden
YES! It’s always those same annoying dance moves. Medication ads are the worst for that. They cram so much into those 30 seconds, and it’s just confusing. Don’t even get me started on the vague info they give. But, hey, I could rant about this all day!

@Sawyer
Haha! I say the same thing every time.

I think they realized the original ad was a hit and tried to milk it by bringing in a new guy. Plus, he’s more polished, and being Black might help them tap into different audiences. Typical corporate move.

@pennila
Yeah, I kind of see that. I remember there was a Super Bowl ad with both Jakes, but I don’t get what they were trying to do.

@pennila
Or maybe they just wanted a proper mascot like Flo from Progressive. Picking an actor who happened to be Black isn’t necessarily a big deal.

Could be, but still feels like a marketing ploy.

@pennila
Yeah, for sure.

You guys are trying to guess their motives, but they already made it clear. Just look it up.

@Justice
I did read about it before. They picked him after an open call. You can find more details if you search for it.

Yeah, sure, and they ‘just happened’ to find someone who fits a different demographic. You can believe that if you want.

@pennila
Anyway, it’s still just a marketing gimmick.

They’re just trying to appeal to different groups.
