I’ve been comparing quotes from different home insurance providers. So far, TD Insurance offers the lowest rate by a big margin:
TD Insurance: ~$110/month for a detached house.
Intact: ~$175/month.
Square One Insurance: ~$175/month.
I kept the coverage as similar as possible for all three. Is it strange that TD’s rate is so much lower than the others?

I’m with Belairdirect. They’ve been the cheapest for me so far.

I’ve been with TD for years. Every time I compare quotes, TD still comes out with the best rates for me.
Are you part of an affinity group? TD often offers better pricing for people in affiliate groups because of their claims history.

Sonnet has been a good option for me.

What are your policy details? I found Square One to have the cheapest standalone policy and Intact to have the best combo deal (15–20% off with auto). For some reason, TD’s rates were sky-high for me. I ended up with Intact because I bundled home and auto—home insurance only cost me $12 more a month with 4x the coverage.

@Rory
We bundle with Intact for both home and auto. They actually reduced our rates by almost $100 this year. I used a broker to find the best deal—sounds like others here went straight to the providers.

That makes sense. Intact is only available through brokers, but I got standalone quotes for the others. Bundling definitely made the most sense for us.

I use Chubb. It’s $276/month for home insurance, but I also have my cars insured with them.
I’ve been with TD for years, but their rates have gone up recently—about 30% higher for both home and auto. I’m looking to switch providers.

I’d avoid Pembridge. As a broker, I deal with them daily, and they’re one of the worst insurers in Canada. Claims handling is a nightmare.

I agree. I had Pembridge before switching to Intact, and the difference in service during claims is night and day.

Thanks for the heads-up. I got my policy through Kanetix. Maybe I need a new broker too.

I had a bad experience with Pembridge too. I switched to Sonnet and later Onlia—both were better and cheaper.

We bundle home and auto with TD. We pay about $2k annually for auto and $1.2k for the house.

I went with Onlia. It’s a newer provider I haven’t seen many people mention.
