Safe Pilot 30 miles

I was told that driving over 30 miles will reduce your score or not allow you to achieve a high score. Wondering if anyone has pulled over before 30 minutes and waited five then completed the drive. I drive 45 minutes one way to work daily. I can’t get above 61 even with perfect scores every drive. No harsh brakes and no phone use.

I say bullshit. I find the longer the drive, the better. I just finished two 500 mile journeys and my average went up. Using the phone for 5 minutes in a 10 minute drive is 50% phone use. Bad, very bad. Using it for 5 minutes in a 60 minute drive is only 8.3%. More better. I’m at 87 right now and about to conduct another 500 mile trip.

@Milan
Who’s the bull shitter? Me or the USAA Safe Pilot rep I spoke to on the phone?

Lots of long drives here. Never less than 30% discount. Who cares about the score. The projected discount is all that matters.

Thanks

It’s a mystery. I just reset after locking in a 26% discount. I have had a number of drives much greater than 30 miles.

Last May I went on a 2400 mile road trip. It seemed to like me driving 400-500 miles a day.

My score stayed in the 80s, 25-26% discount. (Currently 29%.) I don’t think mileage alone explains it. Might be where you drive those miles, though.

Wait… what? I have to use my phone while driving (my work) and I’m scoring in the high 80s. I wasn’t getting much discount before this job because I wasn’t driving enough.

Speaking for everyone here…no one has pulled over before 30 minutes and waited five then completed the drive to try and manipulate the USAA app. We’ve all got more important things to do with our time.

@Riley
Thanks for your helpful insight.

I’m in the program and have 0 infractions with my commute being 44 miles a day, totaling about 2hr 10 min. I’m at 84/100 but yet I only have a 13% discount? Makes no sense

I’m at a 61 and a 10% discount. Drive two hours a day, 70 miles.

@Reese
Wonder if it’s based on your commute and city too? I drive through Denver rush hour traffic so maybe that’s more dangerous compared to rural back road commute. That could be why they aren’t willing to improve my discount

@Hadi
Denver traffic is no joke. Used to commute from Castle Rock to Aurora. I currently drive through metro Portland Oregon.

That doesn’t sound like a fun commute. Hopefully taking the back ways through Parker might have saved some time. Is Portland any better?

@Hadi
Too many stop lights through Parker and lots of construction. Portland is just like any other large city. It can get pretty bad.

It’s based on your total time driven. If memory serves, anything over either an hour or 1.5 hours in a day will dock you pretty severely. If you’re making short trips between those 45 min drives, it’ll help bring up your score on an average basis. But if that’s all you’re driving consists of, that’d explain the low score.

@charles
90% of my drives are 45-60 minute drives 2x a day.
