Is Travelers insurance worth it? Anyone got experience?

For the second year in a row, Allstate raised my premium by 15-20% without any accidents or tickets. I’m shopping around now, and Travelers gave me a decent quote, but I’d like to hear from people who’ve actually used them. How are they with claims for things like car theft, total losses, or windshield repair?

All insurers are raising premiums, costs are up for everything. If you’re going with Travelers, I’d suggest using an independent agent instead of buying directly—it usually gets you better support if something comes up.

@Keith
I get that costs are rising, but my premium went from $830 to about $1300 over two years. That just seems extreme!

Yeah, it’s frustrating but pretty normal right now. And your insurance score might have changed, too.

Been in the industry for 15 years and have Travelers myself. Take that as you will.

Great for claims handling, and they have discounts if you pay the full amount upfront. You can also get an annual policy instead of a 6-month one. Intellidrive might save you money, but it’s not for everyone.

@Hadi
From a body shop’s perspective, Travelers is great to work with. They’re fair with estimates, even for non-preferred repair shops.

@Hadi
Thanks for sticking to what I asked about. Appreciate it!

I’m an insurance agent myself and I’m using Travelers for my family’s car insurance, no worries on my end.

Travelers is solid. My dad was hit by someone with Travelers and they accepted fault right away, set up repairs within a day. They’re much better than Allstate. I’d say make the switch.

Good to know! Do they let you choose any repair shop, or do they push for certain ones?

@Ren
They won’t restrict where you go. As long as prices aren’t inflated, they’ll pay.

I didn’t know it was illegal for them to choose for you, thanks!

If Intellidrive is available in your state, it could save you a couple hundred bucks. But yeah, you gotta drive like a Driver’s Ed instructor to get those savings.

Not an option for me, and I’m not a fan of having them track my driving anyway. Too much data out there as it is!

@Ren
That’s what all the bad drivers say :wink:

Okay… fair point :sweat_smile:

@Ren
Honestly, you could just use it on a car you don’t drive often. They don’t really check the data closely.

How many people have a spare car they barely use? :joy:

I write policies with Travelers all the time. They’re reliable. Don’t stress it too much.
