Dental insurance… is it even worth it?

Has anyone else felt like dental insurance barely covers anything? It feels pointless sometimes!

The biggest issue is that while health insurance caps what you pay out of pocket each year, dental insurance caps how much they’ll pay. Feels like a total scam.

I have a cavity in each corner of my mouth, but my insurance only covers one per visit… so it’ll take years to get it all done. And if anything else pops up, I’m out of luck for that year!

Maybe try doing one in December and another in January? Sometimes that helps.

Guess you’ll have to wait a bit then!

Never heard of an insurance that limits per trip instead of per procedure. That sounds odd. Have you checked the details?

Yeah, unfortunately, each procedure pretty much maxes out what they’ll cover each year.

@Zack12
Ahh, got it, that makes more sense then.

What’s your annual cap? Fillings should be at least partially covered if you’re in-network.

Sounds like each procedure is pushing them to their limit.

If they’re severe enough, they might need crowns.

@Zack12
Depending on where you are, it might actually be cheaper to get the work done in another country. Just a thought.

Been holding onto a temporary root canal since 2012. The permanent one would cost too much, so here I am.

@Zack12
Maybe ask about paying out of pocket for one cavity and see if it’s worth it compared to insurance.

Same story with prescription coverage… hit a limit, and then you’re on your own unless you have extra insurance.

Insurance caps have stayed the same forever, but prices have definitely not!

I’m definitely calling teeth that from now on.

Dental insurance really feels like a discount card… I needed my wisdom teeth out and it covered $300 out of the $2500 total. They even asked for payment while I was barely awake from anesthesia!
