Anyone else frustrated with USAA’s outdated systems?

I’ve been a USAA member for nearly 12 years, and their systems still feel stuck in the past. I called today to make a simple domestic wire transfer, but I couldn’t because the phone number I added almost a month ago STILL isn’t showing up in their system. What does that have to do with anything?

Their app and website haven’t changed much in years, and leadership seems to be dragging the whole company down. Are they even trying to keep up anymore, or just relying on their name? I’m seriously considering pulling all my money and moving to SoFi. At least they have a modern setup and a 3.8% high-yield savings account.

They care more about spending money on celebrity ads than fixing their systems.

I looked into this, and you’re absolutely right. It feels like they put more effort into marketing than improving customer service or updating their tech.

I remember being shocked the first time I saw a USAA commercial. Been a member for 40 years, and they never used to advertise. Now they’re competing with geckos and talking birds?

Synchrony has a 4% high-yield savings account. That’s where I keep my extra cash. Their credit cards aren’t great, though.

When my wife changed her last name after we got married, USAA sent us FIVE different cards before they finally got it right. Their tech is a mess. Insurance is okay, but everything else is just meh.

Compared to big banks, yeah, they’re outdated. But compared to small banks and credit unions, they’re still ahead.

@Zorion
Fair point.

You’re not wrong. They’ve fallen way behind. That’s probably why they’ve been fined hundreds of millions of dollars in recent years. But somehow, their execs keep getting pay raises.

That’s painful to hear. No wonder things feel so bad.

I’ve had USAA for 12 years too, and I’ve had more problems lately than ever. Dropped my insurance with them because they randomly canceled my policy and couldn’t give me a straight answer why. Then they tried to charge me a ridiculous amount to reinstate it.

@Keagan
They legally have to send you a notice at least 30 days before dropping you. You can also check your online documents—it should be there. And if you call, any agent can tell you why.

I never got anything, but okay.

Been a member for over 30 years, and they’ve definitely gone downhill. Their savings and CD rates are a joke.

The only reason I haven’t closed my USAA credit card is because it’s one of my oldest. But once I stop using it, I’ll probably close my bank account too. It’s just sitting there doing nothing.

My tiny hometown bank had chip-and-PIN cards a full year before USAA finally rolled them out. You’d think they’d be ahead since their customers are often overseas where that tech was standard way earlier.

And don’t even get me started on how they refuse to let me send $1001 electronically but will happily mail a PAPER CHECK for me.

I’ve been a loyal member for years, never had issues—until I actually needed them. I got hit by a drunk driver who ran off, and USAA basically told me, ‘Not our problem. Go find them yourself and sue.’

I have police reports, proof, everything. But they refused to approve my claim. Meanwhile, they’re out here spending money on celebrity commercials. What a joke.

How much is SoFi paying you for this post?

About as much as their stock is worth these days.

Their bill pay system is ancient. Capital One at least tells me when the money is coming out of my account. USAA just tells me when the other person will get it. That’s not helpful.
