It’s Reddit… people just love to downvote for no reason. I’m telling you what happened, and it worked.

I sent them 10-15 comps and about $10,000 in bills for everything done to the car—service, mods, tires, pads, etc. They added an extra $1700.

Routine maintenance doesn’t boost value by the amount spent. Still, you can sometimes get a higher offer if you show recent work that improved the car’s condition.

@Chandler
Exactly. My point is just to send everything over—you never know what might help.

Mods are often capped by policy, and usually don’t add much value—maybe around $1k, and they depreciate quickly.

@Ash
I was lucky. They ended up paying $10,469 for my 2001 Miata, and I bought it back to part it out for an extra $7,000.

What was the salvage value they deducted?

@Paxton
Just prove they’re wrong. Show them better comps, and you might have a shot.

This isn’t really a verbal negotiation. It’s about the valuation report. If there are mistakes or you have more accurate comps, point those out. Otherwise, the insurance valuation is likely correct.

If you can’t get anywhere, you could hire an appraiser, but it’s at your expense. You’re owed the car’s Actual Cash Value, not replacement cost. It’s tough, especially with older cars.

I managed to get a higher payout just by talking to them. I asked for $1250 in diminished value and ended up getting it.

They likely used CCI for a comparison report. Make sure the comps are accurate. Provide at least 3-5 similar cars within 50-100 miles with the same specs to make your case.

My car is married too

I flooded my wife once. Never again.

I prefer the term ‘car’s wife.’ Makes me think of Lightning McQueen and his girlfriend car.

The insurance company doesn’t care about your feelings. Review the report and check the comps. That’s all that matters.
