I know Michigan has some unique insurance laws, but $1,239 for a six-month policy is rough! Does anyone know why it’s so much more than other states?
Yeah, Michigan’s insurance laws are a big factor. Until 2020, drivers had to get unlimited PIP (Personal Injury Protection), which raised rates a lot.

Exactly! Now you can pick from different PIP options, but it’s still pricey compared to other states.
I found GEICO offers the cheapest full coverage for me—around $88/month. If you want liability-only, USAA’s pretty good if you qualify.

Good to know! I’ll check them out. I had no idea GEICO was cheaper here.
Detroit’s rates are the highest, probably due to the high density and more car thefts. I live in Grand Rapids, and my rate is a bit lower.

Totally! I’m in Lansing and it’s not as bad as Detroit, but still high.
Michigan’s PIP system is expensive because it covers unlimited medical costs if you choose that option. I opted for the $250k limit to keep costs down.

Smart move. The unlimited option is great but so pricey!
If you’re a young driver, expect to pay even more. I’m 18 and looking at around $260/month with GEICO for basic coverage.

Yeah, rates drop as you get older, but it’s steep when you’re starting out!
