Anyone know why USAA wastes so much on TV commercials when almost everyone who is eligible already knows about it? Seems like they could use that money to help members more.
I had my account since I was a kid… I didn’t even think about it until I saw an ad in my 20s. I didn’t use any of their services before that. They’re advertising to remind people like me.
You’d be surprised how many people don’t know or didn’t realize they were eligible because their parent was a member or a veteran.
My mom said it’s your turn to ask that this week.
That’s a wild guess, 99%… Really?
99% doesn’t know. (Edit: What I mean is that OP’s claim is wrong… it’s not true that 99% know). Back in the day when Vietnam vets found out about USAA, it was only for officers. The ads now are there to let people know they are eligible. I work in new memberships and get calls all the time from people who didn’t know until they saw an ad.
@Ezra
You’re 100% wrong if you think 99% don’t know.

99% is way too high. Think about how many people are eligible because their parents were in the military and don’t know it.

I phrased it poorly. OP said 99% know, and I was just saying that’s not true. It’s not that 99% are unaware, but not all know.
You should work in marketing
Because 99% of people don’t know about it. You’re not working in the back office with the stats, so you wouldn’t get it. You have no idea how the money is spent. You’re just complaining for no reason.
Because a lot of soldiers didn’t use USAA. Their kids are still eligible, and if their parents never used it, they likely don’t know about it. They keep advertising because they know it works. It’s nowhere near 99%. A service member doesn’t have to use USAA for their kids to have access, so they’re targeting military families who used other banks like Navy Fed.
You’re mad because you’re broke and not making enough? Sucks for you. Step up.

I swear, reading this forum it feels like so many people think USAA is ruining their lives
They must be seeing a good return on their investment. Word of mouth isn’t as strong anymore. You’re part of the target group, which is why you see so many ads. I asked them about this a few years ago and found out they actually spend way less on advertising compared to other companies.
