I just saw some stats on car accidents by state, and wow… Mississippi has the highest rate. Anyone else surprised? Makes me wonder what causes it there.
Not too shocked. Mississippi has a lot of rural roads, plus distracted driving is pretty common there. I read that seatbelt use is also low.

Yeah, they have a high number of drivers who text while driving. That’s probably not helping the accident rate.

I feel like rural areas can be more dangerous, especially at night. Fewer lights and way less traffic enforcement.
I didn’t expect Wyoming to be so high on the list either! Only 114 crashes, but because of the low population, the rate’s crazy high.

Yeah, a lot of drunk driving there. It’s actually the top state for alcohol-related accidents.

And a lot of driving through rough terrain. It’s a whole different challenge compared to city driving.
It’s interesting that Texas and California have nearly the same number of crashes even though CA has millions more drivers.

That surprised me too! Texas has high speed limits on a lot of roads, which might make crashes more deadly.

Also, more open roads in Texas. Probably a factor compared to CA’s heavier city traffic.
On the flip side, Massachusetts has one of the lowest rates. Maybe strict DUI laws there help.

I’ve heard they have longer jail time for DUIs compared to other states. That’s probably a good deterrent.

Hawaii’s also low on accidents—maybe their lower speed limits help too?
It’s a good reminder to check what your insurance covers. Accidents can happen anywhere, not just the high-risk states.

Absolutely! And some states have crazy high insurance rates because of accident frequency.

True! Michigan’s insurance rates are super high due to stuff like population density and accident rates.
