When is it advisable to hire a lawyer after a car accident?

Hello, this is my first time posting here. I’ve been learning a lot from everyone’s posts, especially about when it’s recommended to involve lawyers in car accident cases. Could you please explain under what circumstances it’s recommended to hire a lawyer, and what factors determine this? Does it depend on the severity of injuries, the parties involved (such as uninsured drivers or minors), or other factors?

I was in a car accident with my minor son a few months ago, where we were T-boned. Since it was my first experience dealing with this situation (fortunately), I decided to hire a lawyer to represent both me and my son.

Thank you in advance for your insights.

It’s not always clear-cut, but the seriousness of injuries and the type of insurance policies involved (personal auto versus commercial) should be factors to consider.

For minor soft tissue injuries, hiring a lawyer might not add much value and could lead to unnecessary chiropractic expenses.

However, if there are broken bones, surgeries, permanent impairment ratings, or the need for lifelong treatment, having an attorney could be beneficial.

Additionally, some people prefer to pay someone else to handle the legal aspects rather than managing it themselves.
