I’m paying $1.6k every 6 months for full coverage on two vehicles, and it feels way too high. Anyone know where to look for lower rates?
What’s cheap for one person might not be for someone else. Best advice? Try an independent insurance agent who can check quotes from different companies for you and help find what fits your needs best. Or you can check online at trustedchoice.com for local agents who’ll do the legwork for you.
@Lennie
Or just do it yourself online. These days, it’s pretty easy to compare quotes directly on each site. You don’t always need an agent if you know what coverage you’re looking for.

That works if you’re comfortable with the process, but I’ve seen a lot of people who accidentally underinsure because they don’t fully understand what each coverage is for. An agent can make sure you’re not missing any essential coverage.

Yeah, I found liability-only for around $300 per year. It’s not ideal for everyone, but it works for me right now.
The cheapest insurance varies a lot by person. You’ll really just have to get quotes from multiple companies and see what they offer you specifically.
You could go through a local agent or try sites like Progressive directly. Just avoid those sites that promise to check a bunch of companies at once. They’ll spam you with calls and emails from agents forever.
I’m new to Texas and was wondering, is there an official insurance department, or are they all private companies here?

Texas has minimum liability requirements (30/60/25 coverage), but everything else is private. No government-run insurance providers.
@Jordy
Actually, there is a Department of Insurance in Texas. Check out tdi.texas.gov. Other states have similar departments if you need them!
That rate sounds high to me. Definitely shop around and check for any possible discounts.
I’ve found Geico, Progressive, and Texas Farm Bureau often have the lowest rates, at least for me. Just be sure to ask for a detailed quote because your final price may differ from the initial one they give online.
Try checking out Geico, State Farm, or Progressive. They might have better rates for you.

Progressive isn’t always the cheapest, though…

Agreed, I had a rough experience with them.
That’s really high! I’m paying around $600 every 6 months for three cars with full coverage here in Texas.

Where’s that from?

I had a similar experience with Farmers after switching from Geico. My rate went from $340/month down to $204/month. Definitely worth shopping around!
Try checking Fred Loya.
The General was the cheapest option for me with full coverage.
