I’m considering adding roadside assistance to my GEICO policy and want to know exactly what services are covered. Can anyone break down what GEICO’s roadside assistance includes?
GEICO offers a low-cost roadside assistance program, but every claim you make can increase your rates. AAA might cost a bit more, but in the long run, it can save you money since it doesn’t affect your future premiums.
I usually recommend getting roadside service from a separate company like AAA. Although Geico doesn’t increase your rates for claims where you’re not at fault, other insurance companies might not handle claims the same way and could consider all claims when setting rates.
If you use Geico’s roadside service, it will create a claim on your CLUE (Lexis Nexis) report, even if it’s just for roadside assistance. I’ve had people complain months or even years later that this claim is making their quotes from other insurers higher. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do because the claim is recorded.
Using a third-party roadside service means no claim will be filed with your insurance. You can use the service as many times as you need, and the cost is similar.
Does that make sense? I hope this explanation helps.
