My car was flooded during the hurricane last week, but I haven’t had the chance to file the claim yet. Between work and dealing with storm recovery, I’ve been delayed. I’ve also heard from a few people that they’re still waiting to hear back from their claims.
This is my first insurance claim in 15 years, and I’m feeling very anxious. My last claim after a car accident was really traumatic, and I’m nervous about going through the process again. I have ASD and GAD, and phone calls are especially tough for me. I stutter, and I’m worried about the kinds of questions they’ll ask.
Does anyone know what kind of questions they ask during the claims process? What was your experience like? Is it all over the phone, or will someone come out to check the car? Someone mentioned you can do the whole thing online without having to talk to anyone. Do they ask why the car was left there?
A lot of the process can be done through an app now, which is great. You can upload photos of the damage there. You can even text or email adjusters instead of talking on the phone. I had a customer who was deaf, and their claim went smoothly using just email and text. It’s even easier now. I’m not sure about all the questions they’ll ask, but for flood damage, they mostly just need photos and info like where the car is. They’ll probably just confirm your personal details.
Sorry you’re going through this, but it’ll work out.
They’re not trying to trick you into saying something wrong to avoid paying. You’ll file the claim, and since it’s a catastrophe claim, they’ll send it to the right department.
They’ll probably have a local staging area where they’ll tow your car. They’ll run a valuation report, gather any documents they need, and then either pay off any lien holders or send you a check.
Try not to worry about controlling the process—it’ll be handled. Good luck.
