I disputed a charge because I got scammed. The bank gave me the money back at first, but now they’ve taken it out of my account again. Does anyone know what this means? Can I still get my money back? I called them when it happened, explained it was a scam, and they refunded me. Now they’ve reversed it. What should I do next?
Just because you got scammed doesn’t mean the bank has to cover your loss. Provisional credits can be taken back if their investigation shows you had any part in it.

So if they decide it wasn’t fraud, they take the money back? They didn’t even ask me for proof or anything. Can I appeal it again?
@Hollis
Yeah, you can call and ask to dispute it again, but they usually don’t rely on your side much unless they think it will change their findings.
It’s not that they don’t believe you, but if you used a money transfer app or service, the bank can’t dispute those charges easily. Since you initiated the payment, it’s considered valid, even if it was a scam. Be extra careful with these apps in the future.
If this happened through a debit card, checking account, or money app, it’s handled differently than credit cards. The bank has to investigate but doesn’t always have to refund you if they can’t prove fraud. You can try appealing the decision, report it to the FTC, and file a police report. I’m sorry you’re going through this.
Check your account carefully. Did you get a refund for the original charge? If they already gave you that, they might have just taken back the provisional credit they added earlier.
