I had no idea USAA even had the patents for this! I remember explaining to people how I could deposit checks just by taking a picture on my phone.
Anyone over 40 will remember the old days of snail mail deposits. I know I do.

When they first introduced mobile deposit, I opened my checking account with them. It was a game changer at the time.

Looking back, I now realize how huge that was. I was only 25 back then, and I just thought everyone would catch up eventually.
USAA sued Wells Fargo over this too and walked away with millions.
I remember using those UPS deposit envelopes. That was over 20 years ago!

Haha, that made me laugh. I actually found some of those in an old box just a few months ago.

You’re making me feel really old right now!
USAA has really rested on its laurels for way too long.
Before Mobile Deposit, we had Deposit@Home. I used to use my flatbed scanner to deposit checks instead of those old envelopes.
I still have a local credit union account from back in the day, when I needed a local bank to avoid delays with the mail deposits. I would carry my paycheck with me to meetings in San Antonio and stop by USAA to deposit it before the meeting.
That’s interesting. Chase has had this since I’ve been banking with them (2007). I wonder if USAA will go after them too or if they did something different with it, or maybe they just licensed it.
