USAA shut my account down with no warning… What now?

Hey everyone, USAA suddenly closed my account after I filed a fraud claim in December. They gave me a credit but later took it back, putting my account in the negative. Then they closed it, and now they’re holding my January VA check, saying there’s a 60-day processing period before I can get my money. Is there anything I can do?

Call the VA and have them switch your direct deposit to a different account.

I’m a 60% disabled vet and have been with Navy Federal for years. Their credit card and VA home loan services are great—5 stars from me!

I bought a newer Highlander with a pre-approved Navy Fed loan check, and the dealership at first refused it, saying they don’t take Navy Federal pre-approvals. I told them to check again, and they came back apologizing. Turns out, USAA is actually banned there because it took them over 60 days to process a check in the past.

Never touching USAA again.

That’s messed up!

I used to work for USAA… they are terrible. You’re better off switching banks.

Same thing is happening to me… I’m done with them.

Open a new account with a credit union or another bank.

I use USAA for banking and home insurance, but I’ve always kept an extra account at a local bank or credit union. It’s been helpful, especially for cash deposits.

Last year, someone got ahold of my wife’s info and tried to access our USAA account. USAA flagged it, locked everything, and did an investigation. But during that time, they also froze all the accounts my wife was connected to, including my son’s. We appreciated the security, but everything was locked for a full week. Luckily, no bills were due at that time, but I had to keep calling them just to figure out when we’d have access again.

Since then, we’ve moved more of our savings to a local bank. Just in case. It’s annoying, but it’s better to be prepared.

Nothing you can really do at this point.

Do you file disputes often? That could be why they shut it down.
