I’ve been in the army for 4 years & I have never been able to use USAA because my social & information has been flagged as fraud for them. No one in customer service has been helpful & I call back every few months. They never ask me to send any documents verifying who I am. They say they’ll “look into it” & if everything checks out then I’ll just be able to long in in a couple weeks.
Do I just give up? What do I do? With how unhelpful customer service is I don’t know if they’re even worth the headache.
If it’s flagged, could be as a whole across the board flagged.
If it’s just USAA, someone might have created, or attempted to create, an account with your info.
If you call in again, ask to be escalate. Frontline MSRs can’t do much aside from file a report for your identity being stolen with them.
Might be easier to just move on and make an account elsewhere, but you do need to get the situation solved with USAA so there are no marks on your credit history. Check with the credit bureaus and see if you have a USAA account from the past that you don’t recognize.
More than likely your SSN was used to create an account. This is called synthetic fraud it’s where they use some of your information and some of their information to try to defraud USAA. This can be fixed. I’d try to do a profile recovery using Enable Cookies | USAA | USAA if that doesn’t work escalate to the CEO’s office as directed in previous post
@Zeke
Interesting. And this is why everyone needs to put a freeze on credit.

The way USAA is set up you can’t have your SSN on two profiles so if one was shut down due to fraud it’s difficult for the true owner of the SSN to gain access sometimes
You can try another bank but if your SSN has been flagged, you should rectify that or the problem will follow you around, hurt your ability to get credit, and generally cause problems for you. You should contact the SSA, the FTC, and the credit bureaus to make sure someone isn’t using your SSN and to clear the flag if they are not.
@Crystal
Thank you, it’s just USAA that’s flagged my SSN for some reason

Yeah, that’s weird. If it were me, I’d still run it down and if it’s clear, I’d take that back to USAA but if it’s truly just USAA, it’s definitely reasonable to just go to another bank.

It’s probably someone that made a fake profile. I have people call in saying they got a letter from us and have never been with USAA at all.
If they won’t give you an account, you take your business elsewhere. Problem solved.
Try Navy Federal. USAA isn’t what it used to be, and they are still riding on the coat tails of their previous reputation. After being a member since the 90s, we finally moved all our primary banking away from them because I was nervous seeing all the horror stories.
Go to navy federal instead.
https://www.usaa.com/my/identity-verification/
You need to probably verify yourself
Ask them to escalate to the ceos office.
Send a pic of your ID to Enable Cookies | USAA | USAA. Use your SSN to send the image when prompted.
After your ID is validated, your SSN will be removed from the fraud profile, and you can set up a new profile.
Eta: Enable Cookies | USAA | USAA is for a different purpose. You need to send to Enable Cookies | USAA | USAA.
Ask them to file a fraud report and upload DL(not CAC) and SS card. Wait two weeks
Call and ask for the nearest physical USAA location or if they have an actual USAA employee that can meet you. It should not take very long to prove you are in factbyou.
Just move on.
