Thinking about reapplying to Allstate… worth it?

I’m considering reapplying for a job with Allstate but honestly, I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. I worked in claims there before, and it didn’t end well. To this day, I’m not even sure if I was fired or if I quit.

I was qualified for the role, but personal struggles with addiction led to issues with attendance and training. I tried to explain my situation to my supervisor and requested extra support, but it wasn’t available. Eventually, I reached a breaking point and, in frustration, sent an email that led to my immediate separation.

Since then, I’ve gone through treatment, have been sober since August 2022, and have held a steady job. I feel like I’m finally back on track and capable of doing a good job. But, I’m torn about going back to Allstate, thinking they might reject my application or that it could be a bad move altogether. Thoughts on whether I should give it a shot or move on?

Allstate claims is a high-pressure job, so expect that intensity if you go back.

Thanks, that’s definitely something to keep in mind.

I worked property claims there for 25 years. There are great people, but the pressure and micromanagement have only increased.

Each employer usually marks if you’re eligible for rehire. You could call Allstate HR to ask if you’re marked as rehirable.

Thanks for the tip, really appreciate it!

They recently switched to a new HR system, so if they marked you ‘do not rehire’ in the old system, it may not have carried over. Might be worth applying.

Good to know, thanks! I think I’ll give it a try.

@MegWhitgal
If you do, keep it positive. Focus on what you learned and don’t bring up details unless asked.

Don’t overthink it. Just apply and see what happens. Worst case, they say no.

Go ahead and apply, and if they ask, be upfront about your past challenges. Show them you’re doing better now.

Keep in mind, Allstate is known for not valuing employees long-term. They laid me off after 35 years. Just know what you’re getting into.

Remember, you could always apply to other insurance companies too.

Consider other companies in insurance as well. There are options.
