I just read some news about USAA and after being with them for 39 years, I’m thinking it might be time to leave. Curious if anyone else feels the same way.
At 40 years, you get a special dividend payout. Maybe worth sticking around for that.

Really? I’m close to 40 years too. I might hold off on switching. I still get great auto rates and discounts with my homeowner’s policy. I’ve been getting $1500-$2000 back every year with the member dividend, though the banking side has gone downhill.
@Gale
The payout this year was much smaller than in the past.
@Gale
I’ll see when I get mine in February. I’ve also been debating switching but a friend at State Farm convinced me to stay for now.
@Gale
I find those amounts hard to believe. I’ve been with them over 20 years and even with significant investments and multiple policies, my dividend has never been more than $150. How are you getting 10 times that?
@Gale
Were you an officer or enlisted?
@Gale
I’m getting about $250. It’s based on how many insurance products you have and how much you’re paying. It has nothing to do with banking or investments. Those getting over $1K have probably been members for close to 40 years.
Make sure you really look around before leaving. I decided to stay after checking other options. Been a member for 42 years.
It’s always good to shop around. Insurance companies and banks don’t have loyalty to you, so don’t feel bad about exploring better options.
I’ve been with them forever, but I just switched my car insurance to Progressive. I still use USAA for banking, though.
Where do you get your dividend? I’ve been with them for a couple of years and haven’t seen anything like that.
I’ve been with USAA since 1992. It’s sad to see how bad things have gotten with customer service and rising rates. I’m thinking about leaving too.
I keep a small checking account with USAA but moved most of my money to a local credit union and Charles Schwab.
I’ve been with them for 19 years. I know they’re not always the cheapest, but they’ve always been dependable when I’ve needed them. That still matters to me.

What did USAA fail to do that your IT team had to handle?
Been with them for 35 years. I left last year but ended up coming back. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
They’ve really changed over the years. If I weren’t so tied to my current setup, I’d consider switching.
Nope, staying put for now.
