After three rounds of PRP on my knee and still not feeling fully back to normal since my car accident, my orthopedic surgeon recommended surgery. I’m considering going forward with it and wondering if it would be fully covered under my claim. I have up to $250k UIM and $25k medical coverage.
Also, would getting surgery affect the claim settlement amount?
If it’s been 10 months, insurance might question if the surgery is related to the accident. Sometimes they’ll push back on treatments that happen long after the incident, but if your doctor can show it’s necessary due to the accident, they’re more likely to cover it.

You mentioned UIM, but what’s going on with the at-fault bodily injury claim? To answer your question, any treatment the insurance agrees is related to the accident should be covered under your injury claim. And yes, having surgery generally adds value to the claim.
