My parked car was hit by another driver who provided his license, registration, and insurance card. However, when I looked at the card while making my claim, I noticed that it expired in October 2023. Will his policy number still be valid, or do I need to take any additional steps? I’m located in NYC.
You’ll have to find that out from claims - I have family members that keep their expired ID cards in their glovebox. Hopefully he gave you the wrong ID card and his information is still the same with the same company. Worst case scenario, you reach out to your insurer, pay your deductible and hope that they can subrogate.
Would I have to contact their claims department, or would my insurer be able to get that information
Your insurance will be able to get that information. Let them do the work. That’s one of the reasons you pay for it.
I accidentally gave expired insurance to the police before when getting a ticket.
They didn’t care and didn’t say anything. I think they are able to check your actual current insurance information from the computer in their car, and asking for your insurance card is just making sure you have it on hand.
