I was in an at-fault accident in June 2022 and didn’t have insurance at the time. After the accident, I was added to the car owner’s policy with Progressive, and they paid for the totaled car. However, two months later, I was removed from the policy.
Now I’ve received a claim from Sedgwick asking for $15k. Will Progressive cover this, or am I expected to pay this myself? What are my options here?
Did Progressive ever tell you they wouldn’t cover the property damage? It’s best to reach out to them with the Sedgwick notice. Do you know the property damage limit on the policy? It’s possible that the $15k is beyond what Progressive covers.
@Jody
I reached out to Progressive, but the rep handling my case wasn’t available. I’ll try again tomorrow. I’m just worried—what if Progressive doesn’t cover this? Will I have to pay the $15k? Should I contact an attorney?
Since you were uninsured at the time, were you considered a household member on the policy? Did you receive any letter confirming coverage for liability?
Progressive covering the car’s total loss is separate from this liability claim. If Sedgwick is pursuing you directly, it may indicate that either Progressive isn’t covering your liability or that their coverage limits were insufficient.
@dominic
Yes, I was a household member of the policy holder at that time. I didn’t receive any coverage letter myself, but the car owner might have one. Hopefully, he kept it.
