Roofers offering to help with deductible… is it legal?

How can roofers legally help with home claim deductibles if it’s supposed to be illegal? They keep telling me there are legal ways to do it, even after I pointed out that it’s not allowed. They’ve been very persistent, but we had a family friend, who is a roofer, check our roof, and he said it’s fine. We’ve been getting knocks on the door every day from these roofers since there was a recent hail storm in the area, and I feel like they’re pushing people around here. Our homes are only 3-4 years old, and I’m worried that this might lead to higher home insurance premiums next year. Should I report these companies for unethical practices?

Just tell them no or contact the authorities if they keep bothering you. This really isn’t an insurance issue.

I’d suggest not answering the door to these storm chasers.

Yeah, definitely don’t sign anything. These companies specialize in filing claims after storms, even if you don’t actually need a new roof. It’s a big issue in places like Florida. They go through neighborhoods after storms and convince homeowners to get their insurance to cover a new roof, whether it’s necessary or not.
