Question about temporary car insurance… anyone dealt with this?

i’m in georgia. bought a cheap used car on friday, 10/25, but now things have changed, and i’m selling it back to the dealer on monday, 11/4, so i’ll only have it for about 10-11 days. the dealer isn’t sure if the title will even go into my name officially.

my main concern is avoiding an insurance lapse that could raise my premiums on the car i already own and plan to keep.

if i get insurance on this temporary car but the title never transfers to me, will that hurt me? or can i skip insuring it since my insurance company offers a 30-day grace period and i won’t have it long? just trying to avoid any issues with future rates. thanks for any advice!

if you have an active policy, you won’t have a lapse.

no active policy means a lapse.

it’s really that straightforward. grace periods, title status, and dmv timelines don’t change that.

thanks for clarifying—just to be sure, do i need a policy on the temporary car, even if the title isn’t in my name? or is my existing policy on the car i’m keeping enough to avoid a lapse?

@Lyle
as long as you haven’t canceled your existing policy, you should be fine. they just need you to have continuous coverage under any policy.

since you’ve kept your current policy active, you’re covered.

@Lyle
you own car A, and it’s insured.

you bought car B, and you’ll have automatic coverage on car B for the same coverages as car A, as long as it’s added within the grace period.

> so, because you have an existing policy on the car you’re keeping, there’s no lapse.
