I currently sell insurance for a big-name company, and when I come across customers with “New South Insurance,” I notice one of two things:
- My price doesn’t even come close to what New South customers say they’re paying.
- These customers often have several blemishes on their Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). If my quote isn’t at least three times what they’re currently paying with New South, it comes back as ineligible with my company.
I’ve been shopping around for insurance myself after facing a rate increase, but I can’t find much information on New South. A Google search shows they’re based in North Carolina, yet aside from the NYS site, there’s no mention of them selling insurance in New York. When I tried to get a quote from their “website,” it just led to spam calls from companies and agents not affiliated with them.
I did come across a lawsuit involving New South that mentions they’re owned by National General.
My questions to all my fellow NY indie agents/brokers are:

Is New South a last resort for risky drivers? Should I avoid getting a quote from them? I don’t have the best driving record (three accidents in the last five years), but my current insurer is still cheaper than other quotes I’ve received, including from Geico and Progressive.

If New South is owned by National General, are their coverages and premiums different from other National General affiliate companies?

If I’m eligible for coverage with National General or Integon, does that mean I’m also eligible for New South? Are these different companies used for different risk levels? Out of National General, Integon, and New South, which seems to be the best choice? Or are they all below average?
