I’m comparing car insurance options and trying to decide between Liberty Mutual and Geico. Geico seems cheaper, but Liberty Mutual has more discounts. Anyone have experience with either of these companies?
If you’re just looking at price, Geico is usually cheaper. Their rates for full coverage and minimum coverage are both lower than Liberty Mutual’s by quite a bit

Yeah, Geico’s full coverage is about $108 per month on average. Liberty Mutual’s is closer to $157 per month. It adds up over the year if you’re on a budget
@Bao
I’ve been with Geico for a while, and the rates really are good. But if you’re looking for extra coverage options, Liberty Mutual might be worth it
Liberty Mutual offers more discounts, though, like their early shopper and homeowner discounts. You can stack them, which makes it easier to save. If you’re eligible for multiple discounts, it could help bring down the cost
@Harlan
They also have that RightTrack program for safe driving discounts, which gives you up to 30% off. I think Geico’s DriveEasy only goes up to 25%, and they might increase your rate if you have poor driving habits
@Kit
Right, and Liberty Mutual’s program doesn’t penalize for phone use as much as Geico’s. Plus, they offer a pay-per-mile option if you don’t drive much
For young drivers, Geico seems to be the better choice. Their rates for 18-year-olds are around 42% cheaper than Liberty Mutual’s. That’s a huge difference

Definitely true. Geico’s full coverage for young drivers is about $3,854 per year compared to Liberty Mutual’s $6,932. Young people should probably go with Geico if they’re price-sensitive
@Laine
If you can add a young driver to a family policy, that’s usually the cheapest route. Rates are still higher, but combining policies can lower the overall cost
Liberty Mutual does have more coverage options. They offer things like gap insurance, new car replacement, and Mexico insurance, which Geico doesn’t have

That’s one of the reasons I chose Liberty Mutual. I liked that I could add on better car replacement and get a lifetime repair guarantee. If you’re looking for extra features, Liberty Mutual has more flexibility
@Palmer
Makes sense, especially if you have a new car and want to keep it covered. Geico’s add-ons are pretty basic compared to Liberty Mutual
Customer service-wise, Geico is rated slightly better. They get fewer complaints and have a higher J.D. Power rating, though neither company is top-tier in customer service

Geico is also rated higher in financial stability with an A++ from AM Best, compared to Liberty Mutual’s A rating. That can be reassuring if you’re worried about claim payouts
@Zadie
Good to know. I want a company that’s reliable if I ever need to make a claim. Sounds like Geico is the better choice if customer satisfaction and stability are priorities
