Recently, my kitten suffered a break to his arm bone. I know it is really sad, but I decided to buy pet insurance for him in the hopes that it would pay for his bills both for the present and any future incidents. Since I am new to this, I am not familiar with waiting periods or all the other money hungry nonsense that these insurance companies tack on to their policies. I have discovered through research that these companies impose waiting periods in order to stop things like fraudulent claims. Fraud prevention is fantastic, but it is terrible when it makes it harder for clients who actually need help with their dogs. Having said that, is it reasonable to pay for insurance only to have “waiting periods” before the policy is deemed active? Naturally Not. Was there a “waiting period” that these insurance companies have to follow before accepting your money to purchase this insurance in the first place? No. In light of this, I would argue that there needs to be a mechanism for clients who truly require assistance with their pets’ LEGITIMATE veterinary expenditures to be eligible for an exemption, provided that the expense is partially expended “before the waiting period.” Naturally. Regarding my particular case, I had bought pet insurance, but I had to take my kitten to the veterinarian two days before the expiration of his accident claims period. As a result, a Lemonade representative rejected my claim; nevertheless, I have filed an appeal, which is still being processed. My kitty was in excruciating discomfort, and if I had waited for the two-day time to end, his fever would have killed him. Now that everyone is aware of my background, I will return to this post to provide an update on how my appeal was granted, because to assume that these insurance companies’ “strict policies” requiring pointless waiting periods that should not even exist is crazy.

The waiting period is due to people purchasing insurance after an injury or illness happens, and then wanting it covered. As your insurance was inactive at the time, technically that applies to you as well.
Additionally, MetLife provides accident coverage with a zero-day waiting period if you would have done your research. 14 days in case of sickness
Furthermore, Metlife waives the 14-day illness wait if your pet came from one of the approved shelters on their list.

After you crash your automobile, you are unable to purchase auto insurance. After a house burns down, you are unable to purchase home insurance. And so forth. It is only a cornerstone of the insurance sector. Do I find it appealing? No. Yet how it functions is unrelated to how I feel. Although I believe that healthcare should not be organized in this manner, I must accept the way things are in the world for the time being.
