Left USAA, switched to Progressive, now facing renewal rate increase

It depends on location. USAA can be expensive in places like FL but cheaper elsewhere.

I’m in California’s Central Valley, with USAA for decades. Homeowners + umbrella + floater is $134/month. Two cars are about $220/month total after recent renewals and significant increases.

Do people here consider the USAA subscriber savings account contribution? This year, USAA allocated $1K to my Subscriber account, $500 to my savings account. I can only touch it if I leave USAA.

I’ve never seen anything like that.

@Zayne
It’s for Officers or former Officers. There are 3 levels of USAA membership.

That’s correct. I was an officer.

I’m not an officer but had a subscriber account and received a distribution every year. Still, it’s not enough to cover the difference.

If you stick around until ‘senior’ status (40 years), you’ll get an annual distribution based on a percentage of your SSA. This year, mine is 10%.

It doesn’t apply to everyone. I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

Shop around. I’m back at USAA after leaving because it’s cheaper now for both home and auto.

Left USAA for GM Insurance and saved around $975 a year. I was shocked by how much I’d been wasting for the same coverage.

USAA has declined in recent years. Premiums skyrocketed while service deteriorated. I switched happily to AAA, saving a lot with no service issues.

I’m in South Florida, and USAA just raised my rates significantly. I’ve been with them for over 20 years. Considering other options.

Progressive increases prices over renewals, from what I’ve seen. Just call and express dissatisfaction with price hikes, and they’ll apply discounts. Alternatively, create a new policy with all discounts, then cancel the old one, with overlap required. Been doing this for 20 years :smile:
