Is USAA removing text notifications for card purchases?

I logged into my account today and saw a message saying that USAA is phasing out text notifications for debit or credit card purchases. They are forcing users to rely on app notifications, which I don’t like because those can disappear.

It’s a security measure, and USAA is not the only bank doing this. SMS is one of the least secure communication methods, and banking scams using it are on the rise. It can’t be encrypted, can easily be spoofed, and lacks end-to-end transmission security, so it can be intercepted. Push notifications are much safer.

What about the introduction of RCS? Maybe they don’t want to bother with reconfiguring for that since they’ve already spent money on developing an app.

RCS isn’t secure, and Google is pushing to keep it insecure for advertising purposes. Many countries are also pushing to keep it insecure so it can be easily monitored, just like SMS.

Can RCS fix the problem? Wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier to just use push notifications instead?

Someone else already mentioned RCS, but I wanted to add that in-app transaction messages do stay in your messaging inbox. It’s not as convenient as SMS, but it is more secure and keeps the same benefit of keeping messages visible.

I saw that too. I honestly don’t think USAA is listening to their customers. I’ve already switched my auto, boat, and RV insurance to other companies. Now I’m looking for a new homeowners insurance provider, and I’m done with them. USAA has really gone downhill in recent years.
