I am planning to get a bike soon and am looking into insurance options. Since I am new to this, I could use some advice. If I buy a $10k motorcycle, would it be worth paying $155 a month for full coverage instead of $55 a month for just liability? The bike isn’t very expensive, so I’m wondering if the extra $100 a month is justified or if it’s overkill.
As a solo motorcycle rider, I’m convinced that UM/UIM coverage is the primary reason to obtain motorcycle insurance.
I’ve been in a similar situation where I had to weigh the costs of full coverage versus liability for a vehicle. I ended up choosing full coverage because, while it cost more, it offered peace of mind knowing that if something happened—whether it was an accident, theft, or damage—I wouldn’t have to cover the expenses out of pocket. For a $10k motorcycle, the extra $100 a month might feel like a lot, but full coverage can protect your investment and save you from potentially hefty repair or replacement costs. If you’re comfortable with the higher monthly payment and value the extra security, it could be worth it; otherwise, liability insurance is more cost-effective but offers less protection.
