Is IAA better than Copart or not?

I’m trying to figure out the main differences between Copart and IAA. For those who’ve used both, what are the biggest factors that stand out?

- Why would you choose one over the other?

- Anyone had experience with IAA since they updated their platform? They mentioned better service for local managers and improvements to their Selling Platform. Are the ratings more reliable now?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s dealt with either or both and what you think is better.

I use both, and honestly, it’s like choosing between two fast food places. Same kind of service, but maybe you like one thing from one and something else from the other. In the end, not much difference if you ask me.

@lyanna
Appreciate that. Any idea why Copart seems to be doing better?

@lyanna
Totally agree. I’m an auto adjuster, and I’ve used both with two different carriers. To me, no real difference.

@lyanna
Same here. Copart and IAA are way better than TRA. My company stopped using TRA because of too many problems.

From my experience as a total loss adjuster, it really depends on the location. I work across several states, and in some places, IAA is great, while in others, Copart is better.

One thing I’ve noticed is that Copart tends to be a bit rougher with the cars, leading to extra repairs when customers decide to keep their vehicles. Also, I see more theft of items from vehicles at Copart compared to IAA.

When I have title issues, IAA’s staff usually know what’s going on, while at Copart, I often have to guide them through fixing the paperwork. Copart is also slower at notifying us about title problems.

Like I said, it’s hit or miss.

As a buyer, I found IAA better. A friend of mine (sadly passed away now) told me years ago that Copart wasn’t great and IAA was much better, at least from a buyer’s perspective.

Where I am, IAA is the main player. Copart’s local yard is poorly managed. I help run some of the IAA sites and see the daily operations. I also deal with Copart now and then, and the difference is night and day. You have to use their app for everything, and even then, the service is slow. But that could just be my local experience.

I deal with both regularly, and while I like Copart’s website, IAA’s process is much smoother. IAA recently upgraded their system, and it’s way easier to use now, so I think I’ll end up liking them more in the long run.

@Kai
What do you like about their new upgrades?

The fact that the old interface is gone! It used to feel like using an ancient system. Now it’s modern and not such a pain to work with, so I’m much happier when I get claims in areas where IAA runs the show.

I don’t go to the yards much anymore, but in my area, Copart’s yards are bigger, and there’s more space between the rows. At IAA, it’s tight, dirty, and I feel like I constantly have to watch out for heavy equipment driving around.
