Is Election Day a paid holiday at Geico?

I’m curious if Election Day is considered a paid holiday at Geico. Does anyone know?

That’s funny! Do you even work here?

Aren’t you adorable? You’re lucky if you get Christmas off.

Ha, no, it never has been and it likely never will be.

Just curious… Are there any companies where Election Day is a paid holiday?
Most companies I’ve been with only allow a few hours to vote, but you still need to work unless you take PTO.

Even teachers have to work. The kids might not have school since polling places are in schools, which is a security risk. Teachers report for work since it’s a conference day.

Unless you’re a teacher at a polling place, then definitely not. Companies might give a couple hours to vote, but most people leave around 2 and don’t come back online.

Yes, many companies offer a paid day off for Election Day.

@Kai
A full day? That’s interesting. Which companies do that?

I’m a claims supervisor in R6. GEICO offers 3 hours of paid time for voting this Tuesday. This doesn’t impact your accrued time off. GEICO can’t retaliate against or deny your request. An official email went out last Wednesday saying the same. Ask your supervisor for more details if you need them.

@Keir
So you can’t combine these 3 hours? I didn’t see any email about it.

That’s correct. I’ll get you the exact time code your supervisor needs to enter in the system when I get back to my desk. I have about five people on my team leaving at noon tomorrow and taking all 3 hours at once to extend their shift.

@Keir
My supervisor mentioned they could work something out, but the handbook says it’s unpaid?

GEICO’s policy says to drop your mail-in ballot in the mail room on Tuesday (if you have one) knowing it won’t arrive until Thursday or Friday next year. If you don’t have a mailroom, there are shred-it bins around each building. Our security team will separate them and send the ones they want to Macon, GA, who will send them back to your original location.

If you want to vote in person, give your ID to your supervisor and let them know who you’re voting for. The face won’t match, but that’s okay. Many people vote without IDs. Best of luck to both candidates, and remember, there’s a 50% chance the winner will win.

Now get back to work. After working hard, there’s a 100% chance that after the fourth quarter earnings, GEICO will have successfully taken billions from hardworking associates and policyholders alike. And that, my friend, is the American dream… for Berkshire Hathaway!

Just being here feels like a holiday.

I think you get up to 4 hours. I’m not sure if it’s paid, but I believe it might be.

You get a few hours off to vote. I’m not sure if it’s a state or national law. You shouldn’t have to use your time.

You’re supposed to be able to use personal time to vote.

I told my agency I wanted a week off just because, and they said ‘sounds good!’

You use your personal time, so technically yes, it’s paid.
