A broker from this insurance company came to my college today, stopping students and asking for information to see if we qualified for a good plan. I gave him some info, which might not have been the best idea, but he said I could get a $0 premium healthcare plan based on my income, which kind of makes sense since I’m a full-time student and hardly work. Still, I looked them up and can’t really tell if it’s legit or not. I’m feeling a little worried now, so can someone please let me know if this is a scam?
They’re a legitimate company, but as a college student, you might be eligible for better health insurance through your state. State plans often offer more comprehensive coverage than private insurance.
Why do you need your own insurance? You can stay on your parents’ insurance until you’re 26.

My dad took me off his insurance when I turned 18, and my mom can’t afford to add me to hers, so I have to find my own coverage.
@Zola
Check healthcare.gov or your school’s healthcare plan if they offer one. Those are the most reliable options for getting health insurance as a student in the US.
I don’t think there’s a company called Alliance Healthcare in the US. Do you mean Allianz Care? They’re a real insurance provider. You can contact them directly to verify. It’s pretty common for insurance reps to visit colleges to offer plans.
@Jaden
The full name is Health Service Department, Alliance & Associates. They emailed me from an @alliance321.com address if that helps.

I’d recommend reaching out to your school’s admin office to verify if this is legit. You could also look up the company online and see if they have any reviews or a Better Business Bureau (BBB) page. The domain has been registered since 2006, which suggests it’s a legit local insurance brokerage.
Any updates? I’m worried too.
