Insurance advice needed for 17-year-old with convictions

When I was 13, I made the mistake of taking my dad’s car for a joyride on the motorway. As a result, I now have four convictions: driving without third-party insurance, driving not in accordance with a license, exceeding 70 on a motorway, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Now that I’ve turned 17, I need insurance to drive my mom’s car. When I get quotes without declaring the convictions, it looks affordable. But when I include the convictions, no one will insure me. I know failing to declare these is risky, but the police also misspelled my name on the court documents, so I’m not sure if the convictions would even come up.

What are my options here? Any advice would be appreciated.

You can’t avoid declaring your convictions. Insurance companies will run your driving record, and if they find out you lied, you’ll face serious consequences, including insurance fraud charges. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Get a bus pass or a bike until you can sort this out.

Thinking they won’t check your record is naive. The idea that it’s ‘not feasible’ for them to find out is hilarious. They absolutely will.

This is a classic case of ‘actions have consequences.’ You’ll need to own up to your past actions and find a way forward. Lying will only make things worse.

More like a case of ‘mess around and find out.’

Until you can resolve this, your best option is to walk or find alternative transportation.
