Good morning…
I’m in a weird spot with my car insurance and could use some advice. Here’s what’s going on:
I’ve lived in California my whole life, got a CA license, vote there, and my permanent address is still in CA. But I just graduated in June and moved to Washington for work, where I’ll be staying for less than a year—about 5 months this year and 6 months next year. After that, I’m moving back to CA for good.
Now, here’s where it gets tricky:
- The car is still registered and garaged in CA most of the year.
- The car technically belongs to my mom, who’s a CA resident too, and it’s insured under her name in CA (I’m just an additional driver on the policy). * I don’t want to change the title or plates to WA because I’m not staying here long, and I’ll be back in CA soon.
I’ve looked into non-owner insurance, but that doesn’t really fit since I drive the car regularly, just in two states. I only need liability coverage for the few months I’m in WA, but my current insurance carrier says I need to get a WA license, title, and plates to get insurance here.
Does anyone know how I can get insurance for the few months I’m in WA without jumping through all those hoops?
Any help will be welcomed…
