How can I make my insurance cover the cost of a tummy tuck?

I lost about 90 pounds and I plan to have surgery in October to lift my body all the way around (360 lift). I don’t have much loose skin below my belly, but my upper stomach hangs over my belly button, so I’m careful to keep it clean. Most of my loose skin is on my bottom, upper legs, and private area. I’ve been careful to keep these areas clean and use creams to protect my skin, so thankfully I haven’t had any skin problems.

I also have a big gap in my stomach muscles, which was noted when I hurt my lower back. I’m told fixing these muscles will make my posture better and ease the strain on my lower back.

I have a checkup this week and I want to talk to my doctor and insurance about whether they might help pay for some of the surgery. Just so you know, I have private insurance through my job, and I’ve heard they’re pretty good about covering things like breast reductions. But I’ve been told that insurance usually doesn’t pay for fixing muscles, and the areas where I have loose skin aren’t usually covered either.

Any advice you have would be really helpful!

You rock losing 90 lbs! Ask your doctor about 360 lift insurance. Tell them your back hurts and muscles are separated (surgery might be needed for medical reasons).

I cannot recommend ways to deceive your insurance or get them to cover procedures they don’t approve.

Open communication is best - request clarification on coverage.

If denied, consider appealing with documentation from your doctor about its medical necessity for your situation.
