Hi everyone, I really need some advice. I was the victim of a hit and run. The police actually witnessed it and there’s a report. I filed a claim the same day, October 16. But now I feel like my claims adjuster is giving me the runaround.
They told me if I go through my own insurance (USAA), they’ll fix my car, but my premiums might go up even though I wasn’t at fault. If I go through the other party’s insurance (Germantown Mutual), I’d have to close my claim with USAA and handle everything myself.
This doesn’t sound right to me at all. To make it worse, I can’t get the claims adjuster to respond quickly, and when I asked for a supervisor to call me, no one did.
I’m so frustrated that I’m already looking at switching insurance. Allstate would save me $250 a month with a lower deductible and the same cars.
Can anyone tell me if this is how it’s supposed to work? I’ve been with USAA for over 20 years, and this has been so disappointing.

Just file the claim with your insurance. They should deal with the other company for you.
I did that. I even gave USAA the claim number and contact info for the other insurance adjuster. But USAA is saying they won’t do anything unless I go through them to fix the car, which would raise my premiums. They’re telling me to close my claim and handle everything with the other insurance myself. It just feels so wrong. Thanks for responding.

Yeah, that’s usually how it works. Just stick with filing the claim through USAA.
Thanks again. I filed the claim with USAA on October 16, but they don’t want to handle anything with the other insurance until my car is fixed. That would make my premiums go up since it counts as a claim. It’s so frustrating. I even gave them the claim number and contact for the other insurance, and they still won’t help.
I’m dealing with something similar … our claims adjuster is useless. Try threatening to involve consumer protection. That’s how we finally got a supervisor to call back.

Please keep me updated on how your claim goes. I just called them out on Twitter, and now someone’s messaging me back, but it doesn’t look like anything will change. I asked why I should be penalized for a crime when they have the other party’s insurance info.
