Help Needed: Extended Warranty Won’t Cover Full Cost – Can I Total My Car Through Insurance?

How are you…

I’m in a bit of a bind and could use some advice. I’m 23 and bought a BMW X3 about nine months ago. The rod bearings have messed up the engine, and the shop says I need a new one. My extended warranty is only covering 60% of the cost, so I’m left with a big bill.

I’ve got full coverage insurance on the car. Is there a way I can total the car through my insurance and get a payout for what I still owe? Or am I stuck paying for the new engine myself?

Anyone been through something like this or have any tips on what to do?

If your deductible is high, it might be more cost-effective to file a claim with your insurance rather than paying out-of-pocket. :expressionless:

If the damage is severe, your insurance company might decide that repairing the vehicle isn’t cost-effective.

Review your insurance policy to check if it includes comprehensive or collision coverage that might cover the damage.

The warranty might not cover specific types of damage, like accidents or flood damage.
