I have been taking care of an outdoor black shorthair cat. He appeared ear-tipped and neutered. He has his setup on the porch and is now friendly. I am not aware of any medical history for him. With so many alternatives and insurance companies, my head is a spinning. It should not exceed $40 a month. What coverage do you all suggest for labs, imaging, surgery, wellness, and dental diseases? My inclination is toward Pumpkin. Any further suggestions. Edit: As Pumpkin informed me, that’s their policy, other companies will accept that as no preexisting condition provided there are no previous medical records prior to the insurance activation date. Need to give other firms a call to find out if they follow suit or if they consider the results of the initial examination to be the medical history and count them as prior conditions.
Wait until after the insurance starts to apply before taking your cat in for a checkup. That usually takes fifteen days, and if you take the cat right away, anything they discover or remark will not be covered by your insurance since it will be pre-existing.
Alright, I am grateful. I will need to reschedule his appointment; I was hoping to do so this week because I unexpectedly had time off work, but I really want his insurance to start before he sees a doctor. What recommendations do you have regarding the type of insurance to get? My inclination is toward Pumpkin.
Every insurance company requests your pet’s medical history, and the time frames for these requests vary. I would advise obtaining a nose-to-tail exam before enrolling if your pet has not seen a veterinarian in the past year in order to establish a baseline of health. In order to ensure that a sickness will be covered if you wait for insurance to start and go through the waiting periods, they will request your medical history to make sure it does not already exist. If there is no history, the visit will probably not be covered at all and be used as baseline for the duration of the policy. Make sure to give these various insurance companies a call and request a sample policy so you can evaluate the coverages. Usually, you can not find them easily on the internet. I presently sell pet insurance and hold a property insurance license pets are considered property.
Many thanks for the information and suggestion, I recently gave them a call to inquire about this because I was leaning toward Pumpkin. I clarified that Oscar had recently showed up on my doorstep, that he had already had his ears clipped and that I only wanted to take him to the vet. They stated that they will base their decision on the absence of any past medical records, adoption documents, emails, or other evidence of preexisting conditions. It is based on what was in place before the policy was implemented, they claimed. It appears like I will be rescheduling his vet appointment. I have to phone Lemonade and ASPCA, the other two companies I am considering, to find out their policies regarding this. Fun fact, she informed me that some insurance companies pay for dog braces or orthodontics I had no idea it existed
Wonderful, If I told you that certain policies also cover acupuncture, would you believe me, We live in a crazy world, and we really do care about our dogs.
