Helene and Homeowner’s Insurance - What Can I Do?

I’m dealing with a homeowner’s insurance claim and feeling pretty lost. We recently received a minimal estimate that only included three words: ‘partial roof replacement.’ They mailed a check, but no detailed breakdown was given. I reached out through the app, asking if this covers everything and requesting an itemized estimate. Unfortunately, calling directly has been impossible, as the line keeps me waiting indefinitely.

My agent also hasn’t been reachable. I’m concerned because I’d like to understand what’s actually covered here and if this is just the start of a longer process. It’s been 26 days since I filed the claim, but the widespread damage in our area seems to be causing delays across the board.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to move forward? Should I wait for more information, or consider other restoration estimates and follow up later? I appreciate any advice you have.

It’s common to get an initial payment with minimal details, especially with high demand after a major storm. You’ll be able to submit supplemental claims as more damage is documented. If you can, find out about the insurer’s preferred restoration vendors and schedule an estimate.

A better agent could help explain this process in the future, as clear communication is essential.

Thank you, that’s helpful. The lack of detail on the estimate is frustrating, and it’s been tough to get in touch with anyone. I’ll keep trying and consider reaching out to one of their preferred vendors.
