Got paid in cash… how do I deposit it?

I live over a thousand miles from the nearest USAA bank. Usually, I use direct deposit or mobile check deposit, and I don’t carry much cash. But I just got paid in cash, and it’s more than just pocket change.

How do I get this into my account? Can I deposit cash at another bank even if I don’t have an account there? Would a cashier’s check, traveler’s check, or money order work for mobile deposit?

Thanks for any advice!

Best option is to open an account at a local credit union, deposit the cash there, link your accounts online, and transfer it with ACH. It’s always good to have a backup bank in case your USAA account has issues or you lose internet access.

Yeah, this is the way to go. I would never trust an ATM with cash deposits.

100% agree!

Some USAA ATMs accept cash deposits. Check the app to find one near you.

Appreciate the tip! Just checked, and the closest one is 3,000 miles away. At least the app’s filter makes it easy to check!

A common method is buying a money order or cashier’s check, then depositing that. Just make sure the money order doesn’t say ‘not valid for mobile deposit.’

Google ‘USAA ATM locator.’ Some banks have agreements to accept cash deposits from customers of other banks. You can check USAA’s website or app for locations near you.

Open a Chime or Cash App account—Walmart lets you deposit cash for both.

Local bank or money order, then mobile deposit. Simple.

You can deposit cash at a UPS store. I had the same issue, and USAA told me to do this. They count the cash like a bank, fill out a form, give you a receipt, and the money shows up in your account in under an hour.
