I had a small accident on my motorcycle, just a low-speed fall. The damage isn’t too serious, but it’s still more than my deductible, so I went ahead and filed a claim. They’ve already paid me for the parts and suggested I get a final price from a repair shop. But do I really need to do that? Most of the damage is just scratches, and I can handle the bigger fixes myself. Am I legally required to get it done at a shop?
I don’t think there are any state rules that force you to use the money to repair the bike. It’s pretty common for people to keep the cash and skip repairs. That said, it’s best to double-check with Allstate. The bigger concern is your lender since they have an interest in the bike. You should read over your loan paperwork or just ask your lender to be sure.
