Employer keeps delaying my insurance… what should I do?

Hey all, hoping for some advice.

I’ve been eligible for health insurance through my employer for about three months now. I submitted the paperwork back in December, and I was told it would start in January. But here we are, and my insurance still isn’t active. I keep getting different explanations—from a delay, to being in a ‘queue,’ to promises that I’ll get a letter soon. It’s like a new story every week, and they avoid giving any written responses.

I do have one email saying I’d be covered, but nothing more. They also haven’t started taking any premiums out of my paycheck.

This feels really suspicious, and I’m in Florida. I was in a car accident a few months back and need follow-up care, plus I have some preexisting conditions that I can’t treat without insurance. Do I have any options here, or am I just out of luck?

Thanks for any help.

It’s always risky to fully trust an employer to handle your insurance. Try contacting the supposed insurance company directly and ask for a copy of the policy. Your company’s rep should have the insurance agent’s info. Get in touch with the agent and request a policy document.

You might want to consult a lawyer. This could qualify as insurance fraud, and they’re likely withholding info. Since you have an email record, that could be helpful. They might even be liable for any treatment delays and related suffering if you find a good lawyer. Best of luck!

I saw someone else suggest filing a complaint with your state’s insurance commissioner. That might be worth looking into as well. Hope this works out for you!
