Does GEICO cover rebuilt titles... anyone gone through this?

I’ve got a rebuilt-title car and wondering if GEICO actually covers it. Seems like they need a lot of paperwork and proof of repairs. Has anyone gone through this process with them? What should I expect if I want full coverage?

Yeah, they do. I got my rebuilt car insured with them last year. You’ll need the mechanic’s statement and some photos of the repairs, but it’s manageable.

Good to know. Did you get full coverage or just stick with liability?

@Val
Went with full coverage. They needed an estimate of the damage and photos before and after the repairs, plus the VIN. Full coverage costs more, though, since it’s a rebuilt title.

I stuck with liability-only. It was cheaper, and since the car isn’t worth much, it didn’t make sense to pay for full coverage.

Yeah, full coverage can be pretty expensive on rebuilt cars, especially if there’s a chance of mechanical issues popping up.

@Micah
Exactly. Plus, if the car’s value is already low, paying extra for full coverage doesn’t feel worth it.

GEICO offers full coverage for rebuilt titles, but it’s not just them. Progressive and State Farm are also worth checking. Rebuilt title insurance is just expensive in general.

Makes sense. I’ll compare rates and see which one’s better for me. Thanks.

Don’t forget to get your rebuilt title from the DMV first. Can’t get insurance without it.

Yeah, GEICO wouldn’t give me full coverage until I had everything sorted with the DMV. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready before you apply.

@Dale
And make sure to get that mechanic’s statement. They won’t cover the car fully unless it’s in safe condition.

I just went with liability. Less hassle that way, especially with a rebuilt title. As long as you’re meeting state requirements, it’s good enough.
