I’m from California and I have Geico insurance. I’m wondering if Geico covers OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) windshield replacement. Can anyone here confirm if Geico insurance policies typically cover the cost of OEM windshield replacement? Any insights or personal experiences would be appreciated.
I’m not from California myself, but I did have to deal with a windshield replacement through Geico recently.
They offered to cover an aftermarket windshield, but I wasn’t sure about the quality.
In my state, I didn’t have the legal right to choose OEM glass specifically.
However, you’re lucky because California law protects your right to request OEM glass.
Call Geico and mention that – they should be able to explain your coverage options and any cost differences clearly.
Good luck
My policy in Washington has full coverage with a $100 deductible. Recently, I filed a claim for a shattered windshield. It appears that they exclusively offer safelite-equipped aftermarket glass. I spoke with several agents, and they just said that “replacement of similar quality” is supported by policy. How are aftermarket glasses comparable to OEM ones, though?
I do not know how they might be operating in California, but, they don’t seem to be helping much.
