Does anyone know how permissive use works?

I live in Georgia and need some advice. My car is in the shop for a warranty repair, and I don’t have a way to get to work tomorrow. A friend offered to lend me one of his cars for the day, which I appreciate a lot, but I’m a bit hesitant.

He mentioned something called permissive use. He said that as long as he gives me permission to use the car, his insurance would cover it if anything happens while I’m driving. I’ve never heard of this before and feel unsure about it. Does permissive use automatically apply, or is there something extra I need to do? Any advice would help a lot.

That’s what permissive use is for. If you don’t live with him and don’t have regular access to his car, you should be fine borrowing it for a day.

Yeah, as long as you don’t live together and it’s just for a short time, permissive use should apply.

I wouldn’t do it; it depends on the situation and the state.

This is exactly why permissive use exists. It’s meant for cases like this.

In Georgia, permissive use isn’t that restrictive. The owner’s permission is usually enough.
