Seriously, these commercials make me cringe every time I see them. Why do they keep airing them? Is there a way to stop them?
Every time I see the commercials, I wonder how much those ad spots cost. And then I remember how bad the interest rates are on their cash accounts, even when the Fed rate was 5.25%.

Yeah, same here. Why are they paying Gronk so much instead of lowering rates or putting that money back into the pockets of loyal members?
@Cael
They’re paying both Gronk and Sam Elliot. It’s like Wayne Peacock is giving members the double bird with all that wasted money.
I think some USAA employees lurk on this forum… serious question for you all, how much ROI has USAA gotten from their media blitz over the last few years? Has there been a membership increase from all this money spent on ads, especially since they can’t even target the people who can’t join?
@Haru
3 doubloons
@Haru
Yes, they’re growing. Every company does marketing, it’s just part of the budget.
@Haru
This is the only intelligent question in this thread so far. The ads work, especially the NFL ones. They’re expensive, but if they didn’t work, they wouldn’t keep airing them. Gronk’s a hit, and Sam Elliot appeals to the older crowd. Before TV, word of mouth was enough, but now they need something bigger to get more members, even with their membership limitations. So enjoy Gronk acting goofy while they bring in new people.
Progressive is the only insurance company with consistently funny ads. They have a mix of characters and scenarios that work well.
USAA’s ads are the opposite – lame and cringey. All the other companies, including USAA, have tried to catch up to Progressive and failed. USAA needs either a new agency or a new approach. How about being straightforward about who is eligible and why they should switch?

What? Allstate’s ‘Mayhem’ character is pretty hilarious.
The Geico ads, outside of the gecko and caveman, are usually good, and they’ve had celebs in the past too.
@Haru
Yes, I mixed them up. I was thinking of Geico’s ads, not Progressive. Thanks for the correction.

True, but USAA has limitations on who can join. I wonder how many of the people who see their ads actually qualify. I bet USAA (or their ad agencies) are aware of this.

I’m sure anyone who’s eligible already knows about USAA.

No kidding, but the commercials with Gronk are just awful. Thanks for stating the obvious…
Boo hoo
I’ve been complaining about these USAA commercials for a while now. Honestly, I think sponsoring the Army-Navy game is enough marketing. They’re wasting our member’s money on these ads. That’s why we pulled all our business from them!
Considering the requirements to join USAA, it’s surprising they’re spending so much on ads. If you’re eligible, you probably already know about USAA.
They should be using that money to improve customer service. It’s gotten so bad the past few years. Or better yet, use it to not double my homeowner’s insurance rate in one year.
I noticed these commercials only started after Navy Federal began airing theirs.
It feels like they’re catering to the lowest common denominator with these ads.
Just dumb lines from even dumber people.
