Do you actually need hurricane insurance if you live near the coast...?

I was reading up on hurricane insurance, and it’s kinda overwhelming. I know home insurance covers some stuff, but there’s flood insurance, windstorm insurance… it’s a lot. Do I really need all that if I’m not in a high-risk area? Anyone here got advice on this?

Totally get it. I’m in a low-risk area, but I still got flood insurance because even a small flood can do damage.

I did the same! Better safe than sorry, especially with how weird weather has been lately.

@topista
Right? A friend got hit by a surprise flood last year, and repairs cost way more than expected.

Don’t forget that standard homeowners doesn’t cover flood damage, so flood insurance is a must if you’re near water.

Yep, and flood insurance isn’t always that pricey if you’re in a lower-risk area.

@Uma
That’s good to know! I thought it was just for high-risk zones.

Windstorm insurance might be necessary too, especially if you’re in a coastal state.

Yeah, my insurance requires a separate deductible for hurricanes. Coastal living, right?

Anyone know how much hurricane insurance typically costs? Wondering if it’s worth it for a smaller house.

Depends on the coverage, but between flood and wind insurance, you could be looking at a few thousand a year.

@Jaden
Good point. Might be worth talking to an agent to get a quote.

FYI, if you rent, hurricane insurance is way cheaper. Flood insurance for renters starts around $99 a year.

Really? That’s not bad at all! Definitely gonna look into that.

@Riley
Same here! Always thought flood insurance was just for homeowners.
