Car accident with no insurance coverage… what now?

i had a car accident when a truck pushed out from the middle lane into the left lane in a side swipe, which caused me to hit another car in the left lane. i don’t have collision coverage, and the truck driver’s insurance was expired at the time. there were no witnesses or dashcam involved. what should i do in this situation since no insurance will cover it, and i’ve already submitted my statement to the police?

you’ll likely need to take them to court.

should i wait until the police investigation wraps up? there was another car involved, and the driver went to the hospital about a week ago. no update on fault yet, and no insurance involved.

@Lane
since you were hit, you might be able to ask your insurance to handle it, but it depends.

they refused to get involved because i don’t have collision coverage.

just to double-check, you don’t have uninsured motorist property damage coverage, right?

no, my policy doesn’t cover collision.

no, my policy doesn’t cover collision.

not collision, i meant uninsured motorist property damage. it might not be offered in your state, though.

@Mal
i think it’s not available here, no.

then small claims court might be your best option.

since you don’t have collision coverage, unless you have uninsured motorist property damage (UMPD) coverage, suing them might be your only choice.
